#154, Harwinton Fair, Harwinton

Number 169 and counting!!!

One of the many things Maureen and I enjoy every fall is traveling to one of the many agricultural affairs across Connecticut. Today we stopped at the 169th meeting of the Harwinton Fair in the beautiful, rural part of Northwest Connecticut.

What surprised us was that there were several vendors selling ice cream so we had some selection. We chose a place that specialized in making sundaes, although I have to admit, I was drawn to the root beer float with vanilla soft serve ice cream. Once again, Maureen demonstrated amazing self-control, and passed on any ice cream although she did have a nice taste of my root beer float.

In addition to all the rides and various vendors, the Fair also has several competitions for livestock, tractor and horse and oxen pulls, and various local products. One of the things we learned was that Jersey cows produce some of the highest butter fat content, which is particularly beneficial to making ice cream. Now there’s some good nickel knowledge!

If you’re looking for a nice agricultural affair, head to the northwest and enjoy the Harwinton fair. In addition to lots of good food and local products, you can enjoy some of that high butter fat from the Jersey dairy cows.
